5/5/2023 0 Comments Ycal programs![]() ![]() The summer internship program is designed to provide five selected students the opportunity to work in municipal government in five priority areas identified by the sitting Mayor. “We want these accomplished students at UIC because of the exceptional dedication and discipline they have shown during their high school years. “This program provides support for top Illinois high school students to take advantage of the excellent education and the diverse environment of UIC.” We are thankful to state officials for providing the resources to retain these excellent students in Illinois and help them realize their dreams,” said UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis. The program is open to Illinois residents who are also U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens and who come from families with a household income no greater than six times the federal poverty rate, as indicated in the relevant AIM HIGH legislation. They must be first-time college students with a minimum unweighted high school grade point average of 3.8 and a minimum SAT score of 1360 or minimum ACT score of 30. High school valedictorians are also eligible, without reference to grade point average and standardized test scores. Students must apply to UIC by the university’s Nov. 1 early action deadline.Įligible students will also receive priority consideration for admission into the UIC Honors College. “The purpose of UIC’s Chancellor’s Fellows Program is to recruit and retain highly qualified students from Illinois and to give these students the opportunity and resources to succeed,” said Kevin Browne, vice provost for academic and enrollment services. “As UIC has shown through our increasing enrollment numbers and rankings, there is great momentum at this university. YCAL also offers educator enrichment programs such as the Career Education and Work Standards Symposium and Educator in the Workplace.With the AIM HIGH commitment supported by state officials, UIC will aggressively recruit these outstanding Illinois students and provide them with a first-rate education that prepares them intellectually and socially to thrive in their lives and careers. ![]() YCAL currently offers 40 different career exploration programs, as well as preapprenticeship programs in construction, electrical, and manufacturing, to local high school students. YCAL connects educators and employers to engage students in various career development activities to help drive the workforce. Over time this organization expanded and merged with similar organizations and programs such as The First Capital Compact and the School to Work Program to form The York County Alliance for Learning in December 2000. This organization sought to increase the quality and support for education in York County through partnerships with schools and businesses. ![]() YCAL's history traces back to 1989, when local business leaders Tom Wolf of The Wolf Organization and William Simpson of Pfaltzgraff helped found The York County Business Education Partnership.
